English: In June 2014, Raj Rajkumar, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and robotics at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and his team brought their state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle to Washington, D.C., at the invitation of Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Autoradio The researchers took members of Congress, the media and others on test rides, demonstrating the car’s ability to navigate city streets and highways without human intervention. Developed with support from NSF, the U.S. Department of Transportation, DARPA and General Motors, the car is the result of more than a decade of research and development that led to advances in such underlying technologies as sensors, software, wireless communications and network integration. From the exterior, the CMU driverless car looks much like other cars on the road. The top-of-the-line radar, cameras, sensors and other technologies are built into the vehicle’s body. The car’s computers are tucked away under the floor.
